Yesterday was my birthday. Most who know me know that I really do love my birthday. It’s not the attention aspect for me or the presents (although that is a nice plus), but how birthdays make other folks feel. Complete strangers who find out it’s a birthday have a moment, be it ever so slight, of happiness for the day. Think about it. Remember that “awwww” moment when you have been in a restaurant and someone is being sung to by the staff? You smile, you laugh and maybe you even sing. Birthdays are beautiful. And one of the beautiful aspects for me is the song. Yes the song. Especially when you have different folks sing to you. From your almost 3 year old granddaughter, who giggles while she sings with her daddy, to your step-daughter/son-in-law who put a creative spin on the words and your 76 year old mother who gave birth to you. Wow! I just love that song.
Okay. So what did I do? What did I get? First of all I got a new camera. I am not the proud owner of a Nikon D90. It is a bit different from my Nikon D40x and it is always a bit trying as you get use to a new camera, but I already know I am going to benefit greatly from this gift. Thank you my gift-givers! The birth-DAY included early lunch at the Sweet Gipsy Bakeshop and Cafe which is just down the street from our house, then some practice time with the new camera and a dinner cruise on the Southern Belle Riverboat. It was a beautiful evening to enjoy cruising on the water. Here are some pictures from the day!
This was made by my fabulous mother-in-law, Sally. I was so excited to open this a few days ago!! I am going to hang it above the window in our spare bedroom (we call it the green room). Thank you Sally!!!! I LOVE IT!
And here are a few random practice pictures from the day (I was practicing):
And of course, just because she is so dang cute, here are some pictures from a hike we took earlier this week.
